Weekend

Connor wanted to run in the Medford Fire 5K Run, so Matt and him ran it yesterday.  Connor beat his dad by 1 minute and was in the top 30.  We might have a runner on our hands folks. I will remain silent on my thoughts about that. ;) ;)

The younger 3 and I continued with our garage sale.  It was a success.  We got rid of so much stuff and that was my goal!

It was a hot day and after a graduation party we were invited to we went to the pool.  Matt, K, and the girls joined us.

Today we stopped at a friends birthday party for an hour and then met up with some other friends to go watch Monsters University.  We have been waiting for this movie to come out!!  It didn’t disappoint.

One of the items on the Live auction at the Night of Knights auction is a class pool party.  We got parents together and bought it for Connor’s class.  Being a teacher and on the committee I volunteered to chaperone it with another teacher before we knew who was buying it.

Getting ready for Halloween, Cross Country, and FMSC

I got back from my trip to Europe (Germany mostly, Austria, Switzerland, and 2 hours in France!)  on Sunday and have tons of pictures to upload and edit.  Keep checking back for that blog entry – it will be a long one!   I had an amazing, unforgettable, fabulous time, but it’s also good to be home with my family.  I am blessed.

Last night we went to Matt’s work Halloween party.  The kids dressed up and we watched Madagascar 3 while eating pizza.  It was a good time.

This morning there was another city cross country meet.  The boys’ cross country team is going to state (our school has an awesome athletics fall season this year wow!) and were there this morning to start the race off.   With Connor’s new interest in running he wanted to do it, so despite the cold weather we all bundled up to go cheer him on.  Again, I was amazed that he was so determined to do it when he didn’t know if anyone he knew was going to be there.  He ran a mile and it was so exciting to watch.  This coming from someone who has never been a big cross country fan.  It was fun because Matt got to be at this one.  Connor got off to a great start and then kept an even pace and kicked it in at the end.  I was so impressed.  He got second overall.

Way to go Connor!

This afternoon my mom, Matt, Jacob, Nolan, and I went to be a part of our town’s Feed My Starving Children meal pack.  Straight from the FMSC website - Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. The approach is simple: children and adults hand-pack meals specifically formulated for malnourished children, and we ship the meals to nearly 70 countries around the world.  Connor had a birthday party and my dad watched Lucas for us.  Last year, the staff at St. Mary’s went up to FMSC and it was such an amazing experience I  have wanted to do it again.  FMSC did a two day meal pack here in town and people could sign up for shifts.  We took our sixth graders (a total of 64 of us with students and adults) yesterday and then my family went today.  The boys really enjoyed it and I hope truly got the point of it all.  Nolan keeps saying, “Chicken, Veggies, Soy, Rice”!    I’m glad we did it together.

Fun weekend so far and tomorrow we are carving pumpkins.  Nothing like being in Europe for 9 days and then getting right back into the swing of things like I was never even gone.  It’s all so surreal.

Brrr….it was cold this weekend…

all the running and chasing kept us warm though.

Friday school got out early for the homecoming parade.  The boys and I met up with Matt, Kristin, and the girls.  It’s always a fun parade.

We didn’t go to the game because it was so cold, but we listened to it on the radio and the Huskies won their Homecoming game.

Saturday Connor had a football game and everyone came bundled up and snuggled to stay warm.

Cross Country? What?

There was a youth all city cross country meet today before the high school meet and Connor said he wanted to do it.  I was a little surprised because 1.)  It was running and he hasn’t really ran much (a couple times running home from baseball games) and 2.)  He didn’t know anyone else doing it and he gets a little nervous and anxious in these instances.  However, I was all for it because he was so determined.

Of course it had to get off to a bad start.  Afterschool he went to go change in the van and locked the keys in the car.  Matt was in a meeting and he had the extra set.  Connor was all upset and I got a little crazy as well because I really wanted to make this happen and possible for him but our luck was looking slim.  My teaching partner came through and she took Connor to the race to get signed up and warmed up. I got a hold of my dad and he drove myself and Jacob and Nolan to where Matt’s meeting was.  I had texted him to let him know I was coming and needed the key to my van.  Fortunately he got the text and was waiting for us.  The race was going to start soon, so my dad just drove us there and we watched him run.  Connor ended up meeting up with a friend which was nice.

The gun went off and he got a good lead.  It was for kids grades 3-6, so I didn’t know what to really expect.  I saw the first few runners coming and thought I maybe saw Connor, but didn’t really expect him to be up that far.  I took another look and sure enough it was him.  He was about the 8th runner over all and got 6th in his grade (very athletic grade – it should be fun in years to come).  He even kicked it into high gear a little before the finish line.

It was really exciting and I was a very proud mama.  He was pretty proud of himself as well.

Thankfully, my dad brought us back to school for our van and the rest of the night went smoothly.

I’ll be honest, I’m not the biggest cross country fan, but would be one in a heart beat if it is what he chose.  However, I might try to put a few good words in for football (or even soccer!) and thankfully he likes both of those as well.  Matt was a very good cross country runner in high school, so maybe he’ll take after his dad.
