Jacob had Kindergarten round up tonight. We have been talking about it all weekend and day to get him ready for it. I have been nervous about it for awhile. He seemed excited. I pulled up to the school and he was excited as we saw his friends from preschool start walking into the building. However, when it came time for him to get out of the car…he didn’t want to and started getting worked up again (like he did for the first week of preschool, a couple of birthday parties, and soccer). I made him get out of the car and he took my hand and we walked into the school. We turned the corner of the hall and Jacob saw all the other kids and adults and again, got all worked up.
Ms Jane, his preschool teacher, was there and she came over and tried to help. While she talked to him I went and got his name tag. He had stopped crying when I came back, so I thought maybe we were good to go. Ms. Jane took his hand and told him they were going to go ride the bus.
He "freaked out" (for lack of better word right now) again and grabbed on to the door frame for dear life and Ms. Jane tried to pull him away. She couldn't get him off. I had to intervene and just grab him. I did not know what to do, make him go (as he was screaming, crying, pushing away from her) or let her take him on the bus. She kept telling me she was OK, so I let her do it. It took both of us to get him on the bus, she had to hold him with both arms tightly, I walked off the bus listening to him scream for me and say he wanted to go home. Thankfully the bus driver shut the door behind me. Ugh….that was so hard. It’s hard to know whether you are being the ridiculous one pushing your kid too hard, or doing the right thing because you know in about two minutes he will be absolutely fine. Thankfully it was only 1/3 of the group that was on the first bus ride, so the whole crowd didn't see the whole melt down. I can only imagine what people were and are thinking. Poor kid.
I walked back into the building to wait and see how it went. I didn't want to let him see me, but I wanted to see if he was going to be OK, or if I needed to take him home. I hid behind one of the classroom doors and watched him give the bus driver knucks and came of the bus holding Ms. Jane's hand and another boy's hand. He walked right into one of the classrooms to start his craft.
We are struggling with this right now because we don't want to push the kid, but we would never push him if we thought he was going to get hurt. It would be easier if he just cried a little or got shy, but he cries, screams (loudly), hangs on tight, pulls us in the opposite direction, doesn't even get out of the car....he fights it so much. He's strong too...so sometimes it's hard to even get him to do something. I just feel so bad for him. I feel bad that he gets so worked up and I feel so bad that he does this in front of his good friends even....so they see it all, they see a side of Jacob that they aren't used to. I'm praying for this to pass, I know it will....but it sure could come soon.
I don't know.
I do know that it was a relief to see this sweet face after the hour was up though....
We have two butterflies already....and another that is in the process off wriggling its way out of the chrysalis. The boys have enjoyed watching...
If you recall some of the appliances and things that have broken down for us lately...the dryer, my camera, the faucet, the freezer and everything in it thawing, well now....Matt went downstairs this morning to find water on the ground by the freezer and water softener. Fortunately it's not the freezer again....however, unfortunately the water softener is leaking.
You have got to be kidding me......!!!!!!
This weather has been ridiculous. Easter Sunday was nice, but everything around it has been icky. It is soccer season right now and Connor has had 3 cancellations already. Jacob has actually had 3 soccer games/practices however he hasn't played in any of them yet. He gets pumped up talking about it, and we get there and the whole thing starts over again. He cries and doesn't want to play, however he doesn't want to leave either. So we sit on the sideline and watch. The coach is great and tries to once in awhile get Jacob involved. The first two times he wanted nothing to do with hit, however the last time he did go out and kick the ball back to the coach. Who knows...maybe it will get better every time. I seriously feel so bad for the kid. We are at such a loss...we have no idea what to do about it. Any suggestions?? People have told us about their kids that have gone through some of the same things, however Jacob seems to get a little more worked up then kids I've seen. The poor guy. Say an extra prayer for him would ya?!
