This week in review

I seem to not be able to keep up with posting these days.

Monday night, Jacob, Connor, Lucas and I went to watch Kelsey’s Christmas dance performance.  She is quite the performer and so in her element when she is in front of people.  I can’t wait to see what she has in store as she grows up.  Matt took Nolan to his speech session.

Tuesday Jacob and Nolan both had performances.

Jacob’s class did a play with the third graders.  He was a shepherd if you can’t tell.  I truly love that our kids can learn, talk about, and celebrate Christmas at school.  Again, Jacob amazed us.  He had a huge smile on his face the whole time and there was no sign of anxiety or shyness.  I’ll stop beating a dead horse with these comments of amazement I promise, we just can’t get over and are so happy with his growth and confidence.  Always something you wish for your child.  This happened to be during my library/computer time (which is only on Tuesdays so I really lucked out) so I was able to make it.

Nolan had his Christmas concert in the afternoon.  I was able to make most of this because my students were heading to band and Spanish when it started.  I do actually teach I promise.  It just couldn’t have been a more perfect day for these two things to happen on.

By the looks of this adorable and bright smile you would guess that he was enjoying himself and happy to be up there.

The poor guy.  You could see it building in him.  He was trying so hard to be OK with being up in front of all of us.  Unfortunately his bells starting falling of of his stick and the crowd starting laughing because it was cute, and then bells starting falling off other sticks, and the crowd kept laughing.  That was when it began.  The next song came on and I don’t know if he forgot the words because he was looking at us, or what happened, but he started crying.  He was trying to hold it in and and rubbed his eyes.  Miss K.  grabbed him and had him sit on her lap for awhile.  She tried to persuade him to get back up there, but he just couldn’t do it.  He came and sat on my lap the rest of the time.  This was the only picture I got of him up there.  He made it through two songs.  Poor guy.  I was not concerned one bit and didn’t force him.  Seeing Jacob go through this same thing last year kind of helped me relax with it a little bit.  I felt bad for him though.  I do think his speech gives him a little anxiety because some of the kids and teacher can’t always understand him.  Oh well.   Next year!

He was all smiles after the singing though when he got to bring us his gift he made, we made a gingerbread house, and had some treats.

The neat thing was that all the boys were able to leave class for a short time to watch the programs.  A cute story about Connor – when Nolan was sitting on my lap and decided to not go back up there, Connor came and whispered in my ear, “Mommy, if Nolan isn’t going to be up there singing can I go back to class?  I’m working on a really important project.”  This is so Connor…..how many kids would choose to go back to class?

Tonight all the ladies met up to have our nails done before the Holiday.  What fun.  We’re ready for Christmas.

This past week….

….it is that crazy time of the year.  So much going on.

Lucas loves coloring right now.  Unfortunately he wants to use the markers all the time….I know I probably shouldn’t let him use them, but he loves it.

Jacob and Matt got out to play in the snow on Sunday.   We haven’t had much yet.

My boys.  or I supposed OUR boys….though I did have to get the boys dressed and try to get them to smile all by myself because Matt was gone. ;)

Jacob and Connor had their Christmas concert Tuesday night.  It was great because they sat two kids away from each other.  It worked out great for taping and pictures (though I cannot take good pictures inside….ugh…I’m always frustrated with the way they turn out.  Someone share the secret please).  It was awesome to see Jacob having the time of his life, smiling away, and not concerned or shy one bit.  Wow, how amazing what a year will do and how much he is growing up.  They were both SO serious.

We had the flu at our house this weekend and week.  It started a little last week and then this weekend Lucas had some really icky diapers and just wasn’t himself on Saturday.  Sunday night Connor woke up in the middle of the night and threw up.  The unfortunate thing was that Matt was in Milwaukee for work.  So….I had to call in for a sub.  I was able to type up lesson plans from home, but I had to pack up the boys in their pjs and bring them to school to get my room and stuff ready for the sub.  Ugh.  Jacob was able to stay with his teacher even though it was early (Thank you Mrs.. L.) and the other three came home with me.  I was a little flustered that morning.  My dad was able to come and pick up Nolan to take him to school at lunch.  I packed Connor and Lucas up after school to pick Nolan and Jacob up.  Nolan talked about his stomach hurting and then had diarrhea starting on Wednesday.  I had to leave school right away to go get him from daycare.  Thursday he seemed fine, however half way through school I got a call from the office saying that Nolan was sick (that is one major benefit to being in the same school as the boys!).  So, I was fortunate that some of the teachers at school could help cover the rest of my day and I headed home with the boys (the other boys got out of school early so that they could just come home with me).  I had to stay home with Nolan on Friday.  Two days away from school, preparing for a sub, with sick kids at home…made for a stressed and tired mom!  Fortunately Jacob never got any of it.

Friday night my mom and I went to a Tastefully Simple party that Diane had.  I got home and found out that Nolan called 911.  Apparently Matt was helping Lucas in the bath and the phone rang.  It was 911 calling asking if someone called 911.  They received a call from our number.  Matt told him no at first, but then decided to pause a minute and asked the the guy to hold on for a second. ;)  He went and asked the boys if someone called and Nolan said he did.  Matt explained to the guy that it was his four year old and that he was really sorry.  The guy said it was fine, it happens, and they just wanted to make sure every thing was ok.

HA!  The funny, or not so funny I guess, but the coincidence is that Nolan was asking me all about 911 earlier that day.  He couldn’t remember what the number was, and how you call, etc..  I guess he was curious.  We had to have a few conversations about that.  I’m sure it won’t be the first with this kid.  My parents had to remind me that they knew a girl when she was younger (a lot older than 4), not mentioning names or anything, that called 911.  Karma?!

Jacob La la la la la…la…la…la…la

Tuesday afternoon Jacob had his Christmas program. I think I have mentioned before that I really lucked out this year with having my prep time (where my students go to gym, music, or art) at the end of the day so I have been able to make a few of these type of things. We were curious as to how Jacob was going to do because he can get so shy. Oh my gosh! He was great. He was beaming the whole time, super excited, and knew most of the words. It was cute, he would turn and look at his classmates many times to make sure he was doing the right thing. So fun to watch your kids grow up isn't it??!!!

We made a gingerbread house together afterwards and had a snack. Connor was able to come down and watch it a little bit and we picked Nolan up from daycare because he really wanted to watch it also.

He was so proud of the gifts he made us. He has been telling us about them for the past few weeks now, but only giving us hints.

We have been so fortunate with the teachers and education that the boys have been provided with so far.
