First Reconciliation

Connor received his first reconciliation Wednesday after school.  They have been preparing for this for quite some time now.  I love that they are able to do it in school and anytime they want.  I hate to admit it but I’ve learned a few things myself.  It has been longer than I want to admit since the last time I went to confession. ;)  It’s been wonderful going through the process with Connor.  He is such a sincere, caring boy who worries and wants to try to do what’s right.  We had a conversation one night in bed and he admitted to me that he was really nervous.  We talked about it, and I tried to comfort him and reassure him that there is nothing to be nervous about.  Come to find out the next day after he has this big smile on his face as he comes into my classroom that the reason he was nervous was because he thought it would be a 2 hour or so session in front of other kids.  ;)  His teacher must have reassured him also.  If I would have known that was what he thought I would have educated him. ;)  I was just glad he was relieved.  In fact he was so relieved and confident that he said he wanted to do it face to face (you have the option of doing it face to face with father or with a partition between you).

The afternoon that it actually happened he was a little nervous, especially because there was a priest there that he didn’t know.  He was hoping he wasn’t going to get him, but as luck would have it, he did.  He took one big look at me as he walked into the room and I gave him a huge reassuring smile.

He came out of the room with the biggest smile on his face.  It was awesome.  He came up to me and gave me a big hug and said “That was awesome mom!  I feel so good now”.

It was a proud mama moment.  I’m so glad he had the experience he did.

Now we’re on to First Communion.  Second grade is a big year!

MN Twins Caravan

Tuesday night we went to the Plaza Morena restaurant to see the Twins Caravan.  They travel all over Minnesota this time of year getting everyone revved up for the baseball season.  The boys were pretty pumped when they heard "Boom Boom” Valencia was going to be there.  They gave all the Twins players nicknames last year.  We also got to see Bert Blyleven and Drew Butera.  It was just me and the boys to start with and it was crazy.  There were a ton of people and no room.  We found a spot against a wall in the back and had to wait for awhile, but it ended up being perfect because it was where the players walked to get to the stage.  The boys were able to give them high fives.

Connor was one of the lucky few to ask a question.  He asked Valencia if he got to see his family much during the season.  Ahhhh…….

We then got in line to get some balls, baseball cards, and pictures signed.  Matt met up with us when he got back into town.

It got so late that we decided to just stay and eat there.  We watched the crowd dwindle down one by one, and as these two were walking to the back room we snatched them and got a picture.  ;)

The boys were so excited.  We’re reading for some baseball………

We played Pin the Nose on Elmo.  A couple were right on, a few were close, and many were way off! Everyone is always such good sports about giving my game a try.  Even if they don’t want to. ;)  Hey, at least they get a prize out of it.

The kid won’t be bored for the next year or so, that’s for sure.  He got some really fun and neat gifts.  All different.   He sure was spoiled.  He had lots of help with opening.

Jacob and Connor had basketball in the afternoon, which also meant that Matt had basketball.  After cake, Matt and Jacob left, and soon after John and Lynn, Barb and Grandma Doreen, and Angie, Neal, Carter and Audrey left.  In the craziness of serving cake, packing up the boys for basketball, and saying goodbyes and thank yous I didn’t get very many pictures.  I’m especially bummed because I always try to get a picture of the birthday boy with everyone.  I missed all of Matt’s family in the whirlwind of them leaving to go watch Connor play ball for a little bit.

We tried to get one with Matt and I and the birthday boy, but he just wouldn’t have it.  He was all partied out.

What a fun day!  Thanks for coming everyone, and for all the wonderful gifts.  Lucas sure is loved.  We are so blessed to have such an amazing and supportive family.  Our boys are so fortunate.
