Baking and Beds for Kids Concert

Yesterday we was our baking day.  It was kind of a crazy day because I also was helping out with the Beds for Kids benefit concert so I had to run out from baking once but we still got it done.  We didn’t make as many things this year with everyone being so busy and short on time, but it was still fun.  Always is with these ladies.  do you like my mom and my aprons?  Those were my grandma and great grandma’s.  They were two huge and wonderful bakers.

Mom had dough ready for the kids to make cut outs and decorate.  They all did a few, but didn’t stick with it too long.  Lucas however, was a baking machine.  He definitely was grandma’s right hand man this year.  I’m sure it will be someone different every year. :)

After baking, Connor and I went to go help with the BFK benefit concert and Matt and the other boys joined us for the concert later.  For King and Country put the concert on and it was really awesome.  They played some amazing renditions of Christmas songs and some of their own songs.  One that the boys and I really like is Baby Boy (click on it to listen).  Seriously my new favorite Christmas song.  I am so amazed by my friend Sara and her husband who started BFK and love what they are doing.  Truly truly serving.  I enjoy doing any part that I can.  It’s been special having Connor help out as well.  This night always gets me into the true Christmas spirit.

Connor made it through the whole concert, but the younger three didn’t. ;)

I was in charge of “band hospitality” – meaning good and drink and requests of the band for the day.  It was fun getting to meet them and learn their story.  Very humble and gracious men.

Keeping the baking tradition going

Saturday the ladies got together to do our baking.  I’m so glad we do this and that everyone’s always on board for it.  It’s great having some organized sister in laws… I feel like the older I’m getting and the busier we are…I’m getting a little unorganized or at least not as on the ball.  Many things are last minute at our house, but it works for us.

We all come with a couple of recipes and help each other.  The girls met up early in the morning and the rest of the crew came and joined us later in the day.

Each year, the kids seem to get into it a little more than the previous.

This is a random picture, but that night we had eggnog with dinner in kid wine glasses.  We came to find out that Lucas LOVES eggnog.  He guzzled that glass in no time. ;)

Some Baking We Will Do

Mom, Kristin, Diane, and I had our annual baking day yesterday. We started early in the morning and probably could have gone till’ later in the afternoon if the blizzard outside wouldn’t have been so bad. The ladies started the morning off getting things going, and then the guys and kids came over later to join in the festivities. It worked out perfectly actually, and the way we should do it from now on I think. It’s nice to have everyone together, that’s the fun of it, but it’s also hard to get the baking done with all the craziness of kids (yes, mainly my crew of boys). Thanks to the guys for keeping the kids occupied.

With the blizzard going on outside, we were inside working away staying warm. Before we started…..

We all bring a couple of recipes and ingredients to share and all end up going home with a huge variety of goodies. I, like always, didn’t decide on what I was bringing until late Friday night. Thank you to Matt for getting my groceries for me.

The kids didn’t want so much to do with it this time around….I’m sure they will some day. Hope so.

Our final products….yum yum.

Mom and dad spoiled us and gave us all an early Christmas present. We got some Christmas dishes that we have all been keeping our eye on. They are soooooo cute! Thanks mom and dad.

Matt took the older three boys to his work Christmas party out at the water park for the afternoon. Which made me so nervous with the weather as bad as it was. However, they had a blast and made it home safely….barely.

It was funny, those of you that watch the show Parenthood (LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this show – you should check it out). We totally had a parenthood moment yesterday. Mattey and Natey were going through some old CD’s. There were times when we were all singing and dancing…gotta love Sorry Ms. Jackson. Mom just stood there and smiled and laughed. A total O.P.P. moment. It was fun.

Lucas and I had to get a ride home from Matt and K in the big Durango. The van would not have made it home, so we left it at mom and dad’s for the night. Thank you guys. In fact, Matt got stuck with the boys at the bottom of our drive way last night coming home from the party.

Here he is snow blowing this morning after the plows had gone by.
